Eggie asked:

Hi, I am currently 10 weeks in pregnancy. I did not change the skin care products that I usually used as before. Recently, I start to concern whether these skin care products are healthy for my baby. But my friend told me since we only use small amount moisturize cream on my face, it should be safe? Can anyone tell me whether this is true. Thanks!

Ken Black asked:

As we age, our skin (epidermis) loses elasticity and becomes less supple. We develop wrinkles, age spots, our skin becomes drier and in need of additional hydration. Finding the best skin care products becomes increasingly important as we age, particularly the anti-aging skin care variety.

As we get older, our body produces less collagen which is necessary to maintain skin elasticity. This deficit is what causes our skin to wrinkle and sag. The skin discoloration that often accompanies aging skin is due to decreased oil production and increased drying of the skin as a result of sebaceous glands that no longer work well.

The purpose of an anti aging skin care regime is to re-hydrate the skin and keep it as youthful as possible for as long as possible.

The commercial skin care industry abounds with anti-aging skin care products and special formulations to revitalize aging skin. However, there are so many anti-wrinkle skin care creams and lotions for mature skin that it can be difficult to sort through them all to find the best preparations.

An effective way to compare brands is to consider their ingredients. If you know what specific ingredients can do for your skin you can read the labels and get a good idea of the likely effectiveness of particular formulations.

Here are seven of the most effective anti-aging skin care ingredients that can be included in facial skin creams:

1. Idebenone – Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 (also known as ubiquinone) is a powerful antioxidant which has been chemically synthesized into Idebenone which also has strong antioxidant properties. CoQ10 was synthesized because it was found to reduce the risk of heart disease and free radical damage as well as impeding the development of some nervous system and neurological disorders.

This natural enzyme was synthesized in an attempt to increase its effectiveness. Initially, it was taken internally and was found to increase brain function, energy levels, nerve growth factor and serotonin as well as protecting cells and reducing inflammation. There are no known adverse side effects of using this drug.

More recently, skin care manufacturers tested topical versions of Idebenone on damaged skin and found that it was very effective in preventing and even reversing free radical damage caused by sun exposure, diet and lifestyle. As we age, our body has less ability to fight free radicals so the use of this element and other topical antioxidants in skin care preparations can help the skin cells to regenerate and prevent further deterioration.

2. Edelweiss Extract is another powerful antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals caused by exposure to UV sun rays over time, pollution, and the modern western diet which is high in fats and sugars. Furthermore, it prevents the increase of super oxides which actively promote the aging of skin. It also provides a natural protection against harmful ultraviolet rays also making them excellent additives to sun screens.

Edelweiss extract contains bioflavonoids which help to strengthen blood vessel walls. It is therefore an excellent ingredient for wrinkle reduction creams and lotions.

3. Evening Primrose Oil has been used throughout history to treat a variety of ailments. In particular, it reduces inflammation and heals eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Where anti-aging skin care products are concerned, Evening Primrose’s ability to reduce skin inflammation is particularly important. The oil of the evening primrose contains seventy eight percent essential fatty acids and is linoleic and gamma linolenic acids. These components maintain the skin’s water barrier and nurture the membranes of skin cells.

Deficiency in Essential Fatty Acids can hasten the aging process of the epidermis by reducing the activity of the sebaceous glands, increase the likelihood of acne, eczema and psoriasis, cause the skin to become dehydrated and weaken the skin’s surface capillaries. The addition of essential fatty acids in topical preparation and internal medications helps to replace those acids that the body loses and cannot produce on its own.

Consequently, the inclusion of Evening Primrose Oil in antiaging formulas is extremely beneficial as it helps to prevent wrinkles, helps the skin to maintain its shape and texture and slows the effects of time process. The best skin care products are likely to contain it.

4. Shea Butter butter naturally moisturizes and tightens the skin. Like edelweiss extract, it also protects the skin from ultra violet light. It is one of the most effective ingredients found in many age defying skin care products. It is not only a moisturizer that makes wrinkles less noticeable and helps skin to appear smoother, it also improves skin elasticity and suppleness, improves skin tone and removes dry, scaly or rough skin.

This interesting additive contains fatty acids which prevent drying, cracking, wrinkling and burning of the skin in addition to assisting in the regeneration and healing of damaged skin. To be a truly effective ingredient in an anti-wrinkle skin care product, it is recommended that the product contains at least twenty percent of Shea Butter.

5. Vitamin A (Retinol) is another extremely important antioxidant which is particularly beneficial. The small molecular structure of this vitamin allows it to penetrate the skin’s epidermis so that it can act to repair damage in the lower layers of skin as well as stimulate them to produce collagen and elastin. It acts to eliminate age spots and improve the pigmentation of the skin.

Vitamin A also helps to regulate the growth of skin cells. Using it topically helps to improve skin elasticity, and smooth skin that is rough, dry or thicker than normal. Retinol is also important for healthy immune function, digestive health and eyesight. Not only should it be included in anti wrinkle creams, it should be taken internally as a nutritional supplement to ensure that aging skin is fully supported.

6. Vitamin E is an antioxidant enhancer and increases the effects of the other antioxidants in an age fighting formulation. It also promotes healing of damaged skin and has been shown to prevent skin cell damage and inhibits the ability of free radicals to damage skin cells.

7. Vitamin C helps to increase collagen production which smooths the skin out and reduces wrinkles. It also improves blood flow which improves the complexion and can enliven dull skin.

If you read the labels on anti-aging formulations carefully and ensure that these ingredients are included, you will be able to distinguish between products and give yourself the best chance of finding the best skin care products to suit your needs.

skin care
Nubian Cruck asked:

There are some different skin types and they require several African American Skin Care Products. It is important to know what kinds of products are out there today and how are they used.

Black skin has ready made sun protection factor (SPF) which is about four to five times stronger than the typical SPF for white skin. This reduces the aging effect of the sun. This means when it comes to black skin care product or an African American skin care product, you may be less likely to look for anti-aging products as early as a person possessing lighter skin.

It’s also a good idea to explore the African American Skin Care Products for general skin care early on. While the aging process is delayed, good early skin care is always a bonus. Well nourished skin is more resistant to the ravages of age. African American Skin Care Products are specially formulated to address its specific texture and needs.

African American Skin Care Products are Effective and have powerful natural ingredients that supply your skin with antioxidants and vitamins. Their ingredients are tested showing scientific results in moisturizing skin and reversing aging signs. Good African American Skin Care Products do not have chemical ingredients like alcohol, mineral oils etc. These ingredients are known to deplete skin texture in prolonged use. African American Skin Care Products treat skin conditions such as acne, dry skin, skin inflammation and sensitive skin. They improve skin texture and also look into your skin condition and treat it.

One of the new developments in African American Skin Care Products is skin lightening. This is because a lightened skin tone can completely change a person’s appearance and some believe enhancing beauty of their facial features even more.

One should opt for those African American Skin Care Products that either lighten your skin through effective natural ingredients or maintains your complexion. Often the problem with skin lightening products is that they can irritate skin and also sometimes cause inflammation. You can avoid such problems by choosing a product with a high percentage of extra pone nut grass, which is a specific component.

African American Skin Care Products bring out an enhanced look to your skin, while at the same time rejuvenating skin texture and making skin young looking.

If you regularly use such products you can see the real kind of black skin care results that you want – lightened skin tone as well as soft, shiny complexion, reversal of aging sins and nourished skin texture. For more assistance visit: – www.nubianblue.com.

Is there a good skin care product that will clear skin while improving the health of your skin?

Ashley D asked:

I’ve noticed that most skin care products are used to treat only acne, or only aging/wrinkles. Are there any products that combine both? I tend to have greasy skin, but it dries out VERY easily with certain products. It’s very dry during winter months, but greasier during summer. I also have VERY large pores.
I was looking at “Natural Advantage” skin care line, but don’t know if it’ll be an effective acne treatment? I want HEALTHY, YOUNG looking skin as well as CLEAR skin. Any suggestions?

skin care tips
Margaret Bell asked:

Trying to uncover that perfect skin care tip?  Judging by how many search results pop up so is everybody else.  There are plenty of places where you can find good skin care tips, and here are a few of them for you.

TIP #1: The number one skin care tip that I can give you is to make sure to keep your face clean. Your skin picks up dirt and pollutants from our surroundings.  Wash your face thoroughly both in the morning and at night, in order to prevent dirty surface film from building up.

TIP # 2: Some other good tips about cleansing you face are certainly in order.  You should try to avoid products which use harsh abrasives in order to clean your face.  These products will only irritate your face, and the scrubbing action will act to encourage the skin to increase the production of sebum, thereby leaving your skin excessively oily.

TIP #3: Skin care tips involving moisturizing the skin are also very important.  Try to avoid moisturizing products that contain mineral oil, or petrolatum.  These substances act to clog your pores, leading to the development of blackheads and acne.

TIP #4: A good skin care tip would be to advise you to seek out a moisturizer which contains pure, natural ingredients.  Look for products containing grape seed oil, avocado oil, olive oil, or jojoba wax as ingredients.  Some of the better products will contain all of these organic substances, and many more.

TIP #5: Let me give you a couple of good skin care tips involving the use of a deep hydrating mask.  There is an excellent product on the market today which does not leave you stuck with a blue or green face for 30 minutes.  This mask is visible as a natural tone, and the best part is that it disappears right into your face, so you don’t have to worry about clean up.

TIP #6: The other skin care tip I was going to give to you involves the very same mask.  The natural ingredients that make up this wonderful product make it far safer to use than most masks.  The ingredients include avocado and macadamia oils, as well as New Zealand’s much talked about manuka honey.

TIP #7: Aside from the other ingredients, it would be a sound skin care tip to purchase any product which contains active manuka honey.   This miracle is not only an excellent moisturizing ingredient, but it also supports skin cell renewal, assists in the formation of stronger collagen, and has high antioxidant properties.  If that wasn’t enough, the honey is recognized worldwide for its astonishing antibacterial and antifungal properties.

TIP #8: Now, I have a few skin care tips regarding protecting ourselves from the sun’s harmful rays.  Everyone knows that in order to afford your skin protection that it is valuable to use some sort of sunscreen.  What a lot of people don’t understand is that the constant use of these UV blockers also prevents the formation of vitamin D.

TIP #9: My last skin care tip would be to say that a better idea may be to find a cream that contained an emulsified blend of Coenzyme Q10 and Natural vitamin E.  It”s called H-EQ10. This blend would offer the skin considerable protection from the sun’s damaging rays, and as antioxidants, this unique blend would also act to repair the damage that the sun has already caused.

skin care
Nicholas Tan asked:

There is really nothing like a best skin care product. There really can’t be anything like ‘The best skin care product’, because skin care products work differently for different people (based on the skin type to some extent). A product that is the ‘best skin care product’ for one person might end up being the worst for another person. So, a more logical question to ask would be ‘What is the best skin care product for my type of skin?’. However, this still is not completely logical. We tend to segregate people into 4 groups based on their skin types – i.e. dry skin, oily skin, normal skin and sensitive skin. However, this classification is just too broad to be used definitively in determining the best skin care product. We can say ‘best skin care product for a dry skin’ or ‘best skin care product for an oily skin’ are better statements than just ‘best skin care product’. But really, that is what it is – ‘better’; still not accurate.

So, it really comes to rephrasing the question to – ‘What is the best skin care product for me’. Yes, this is exactly the question that you should be asking, and unfortunately there is no easy answer for this. Arriving at the best skin care product for self will need some effort on your part.

First of all, you need to understand how the skin care products work. This is simple. You can consider all skin care products to be composed of 2 types of ingredients – Active and inactive. The active ingredients are the ones that actually work on your skin. The inactive ones just help in delivering these active ingredients to your skin. Both the ingredients need to work for your skin, in order for the product to be effective (and move on to become the best skin care product for you).

Besides the ingredients, the way you apply your skin care products is equally important. In fact, this is even more important. If you do not know how to apply skin care products, you might forever be hunting for the best skin care product for yourself, when that has already passed you. Moreover, it’s also important to decide on the frequency of application (of the skin care product). The environmental factors – temperature, humidity and pollution level, also affect the selection of best skin care product. Here are a few rules that you could use to ensure that your best skin care product is really the best for you:

* Cleanse your skin before applying that best skin care product.

* Use a makeup remover instead of plain water and remove your makeup before going to bed.

* The effectiveness of active ingredients is reduced when applied over another product e.g. over moisturiser. So apply that best skin care product first and then apply a bit of moisturizer if needed.

* Apply the products on moist and warm skin.

* You will have to experiment with a few products before you arrive at the one that is the best skin care product for you.

* Do not exfoliate too much or too hard.

* Vary your skin care routine as per the seasons (winter/summer etc), changes in environmental factors and changes in your skin type

Note that the best skin care product cannot be determined overnight. It’s only through experiment (and awareness) that you can find the ‘Best skin care product’ (for you).

microdermabrasion
Asanka Samaranayake asked:

There are many benefits of using microdermabrasion to beautify your skin and complexion. Firstly, the treatment is not painful, unlike the technique from which it evolved from; dermabrasion. This method cleans the skin by using irritant, metallic agents, microdermabrasion uses a less invasive applicant to do the same job of clearing skin blemishes.

The second microdermabrasion benefit, is that it does not use irritant chemicals, knives, or high-tech lasers to do its job! Thus, is reduces the risks, anxiety and recovery time compared to other techniques which do exploit these invasive procedures.

If you did not already know, microdermabrasion uses special mixtures of creams that are combined with miniscule abrasive crystals that massage your skin to remove dead skin cells on the stratum corneum (upper-most layer of skin), revealing fresh, healthier skin cells beneath. While feeling like a massage, instead of a painful procedure such as dermabrasion, microdermabrasion removes pores, blackheads, acne, scarring, stretch marks and many more types of skin blemishes easily.

Not only can microdermabrasion benefits be experienced in a medical clinic, but at home too, with specially designed home systems and machines that are easy to use and specially designed even for those who have never used dermabrasion techniques before. Because of this, microdermbrasion is quick and you can choose whenever you want it; and because of the lack of side-effects, you do not have to worry about it affecting your work or daily schedule! For more information about these packages, ask your local clinic or health centre.

Another problem that many people complain of is whether microdermabrasion will cost too much. Surely all of these benefits must come with a disadvantage; that being a massive price tag, right? Wrong! Microdermabrasion is only a portion of the cost of undertaking cosmetic surgery or other skin treatments. Home systems can be yours for only around $30; and professional spas and health clinics offer top quality microdermabrasion treatments for around $100-150. Much, much less than the thousands you would have to dish out for other treatments.

In conclusion, microdermabrasion is cheap, efficient, painless and has very few side-effects compared to other skin treatments. This is a treatment I would highly recommend to the experienced, and novices in skin blemish removal; it is one of the most innovative and effective techniques available on the market! Further, if you are considering microdermabrasion as an option, there are over three different application methods you can use.

anti aging cream
Laurel Levine asked:

As an adult man or woman hears yet another refrain of “Happy Birthday to You,” that maturing individual often gives thought to the possibility of purchasing an anti-aging cream. A wise person does not want to spend his or her money foolishly. If you are informed, you recognize the value of locating the best anti-aging cream on the market. How should an intelligent adult go about finding a cream of superior quality?

A successful quest for a cream that could put an end to the effects of aging should begin with a search for a product that has proven ingredients on its label. Such a product might, for example, carry the words “naked minerals.” An effective one often contains “naked minerals.”

What are “naked minerals?” They are minerals that have only a slight effect on the surface skin. Once applied to the skin, “naked minerals” penetrate down to the deep skin cells. Aging skin contains an increasing number of dead skin cells. Every day, the skin looses many dead skin cells.

The loss of those cells causes the deep skin cells to rise to the surface. Application to the skin of the cream nourishes the deep skin cells. When an anti-aging cream supplies deep skin cells with naked minerals, then it prepares those cells for their journey to the surface of the skin.

At this point, a thoughtful reader might be wondering what foods would provide an adult with valuable “naked minerals.” In the past, you could get needed minerals by eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Today, however, the growing use of insecticides and pesticides has reduced the number of minerals in those farm-fresh products. That is why cosmetic companies now put “naked minerals” in their age-fighting creams.

The reader should bear this fact in mind: The “naked minerals” do not have the ability to make new skin cells, even when those deep skin cells are found in youthful skin. The “naked minerals” simply provide deep skin cells with vital, life-giving substances. When any of those substances enters a skin cell that contains essential oils, then the combined action of those two cellular components can slow the effects of aging.

Above, you learned about the importance of naked minerals. Now you have been introduced to the term “essential oils.” What are “essential oils,” and why do they deserve mention in an article about anti-aging cream?

Essential oils are organic chemicals, chemicals extracted from plants. Those who make an effort to track-down the best cream recognize the healing power of essential oils. At the same time, anyone familiar with a proven age-fighting cream knows that the extraction of essential oils must take place in a laboratory.

The best anti-aging cream has essential oils that scientists obtained by extracting plant oils under conditions of the highest possible cleanliness. In addition, such a cream generally has on its label information about the qualifications of the chemists and biochemists that have performed the extraction.

Now while an anti-aging cream might have on its label the words “naked minerals,” it seldom carries the words “essential oils.” Instead, its label might carry the name of some particular oil. What essential oil could a consumer expect to find in the best?

The consumer who plans to purchase an age-fighting cream might find the words “rosewood oil” on the label. Rosewood slows the development of aging skin. Lanolin and myrrh oil also aid the rejuvenation of aging skin. Those three named essential oils can restore to aging skin the characteristics that are associated with more youthful skin.

As skin ages, it begins to loose its elasticity. A good anti-aging cream can help aging skin to recover its lost elasticity. Collagen and elastin are skin proteins, proteins that give skin its characteristic elasticity.

How can you identify the best anti-aging cream? Look for a skin care product that does more that simply fill-in any lines on your face. Use a cream that protects your skin both day and night. Use a product that stimulates the production of age-fighting proteins, proteins such as elastin and collagen.

By securing the proper cream, you can enjoy seeing a face with youthful skin each time that you look in the mirror.
